Bin Laden's Death
I think Bin Laden's death has brought a sense of comfort and happiness to all of America. The person who has frightened America for the past 20 years is finally gone and that helps America realize that we can come back from this. Granted, 9/11 happened 10 years ago but it still affects the whole nation to this day. Bin Laden being executed gave America hope to this war ending hopefully sooner then later. I hope that this means our troops will be back and out of the Middle East very soon, but I know that there are still the Talaban that we need to worry about. A very close friend of mine is going over seas in July and it makes me wonder if Bin Laden's death affects when he will be returning or not. He is supposed to come back to the states in the fall of 2012, but I am hoping it is much sooner then that. I believe that we have entered a new era in that we have become an even stronger nation because of Bin Laden's death. This will change and is changing things for us. Hopefully it will mean that our loved ones come back very soon and that this very long war is over.

My Week
My week seemed to go by fairly fast. Friday was pretty fun because I had one of my classes cancelled. I went to Relay For Life with some friends for a while and it was very fun to see what it was all about. Me and the other UC Feature Twirlers had our State baton competition this weekend and we did very well. Although we had to get up at 5a.m. both Saturday and Sunday it was very fun to spend time with my teammates and my mom, who came down to watch my individual routines and team routines.

Literature Review
Literature Review: Women and Body Image
Everywhere we go we see some kind of beautiful man or woman that is thin and fit. We see it on billboards, television, magazines, and many other things that the media likes to throw at us, but who does this affect the most? These advertisements affect women because we are so self-conscious of our bodies all of the time, even if we are a size two. Women will get so caught up in their appearance that they will work out daily for many hours at a time or will develop eating disorders such as anorexia or bulimia. The media not only affects how older women perceive themselves but also teens and even young girls.
Centuries ago it was thought to believe that women that were bigger, not thin, were thought as healthy, attractive, and very wealthy women, because they were able to afford food unlike the skinny peasants. In this century though it is believed that a woman is healthy and attractive when she is thin, toned, and just has an amazing body overall. There are many studies done to show that being thin affects young girls, for example there was a survey done on nine and ten year old girls and it showed that 40% of those girls have already tried to lose weight (Teen Health and the Media).
We all know that the advertisements and billboards that companies use are just a propaganda technique to make more money off of their products, but the companies most likely know that the people that they advertise have an affect on the rest of society. They would say it is just to make money, but to the rest of us we say it is to show us how we should really look and act. There is a quote on one of my sources and it says, “real women are not perfect, real beauty is in imperfections” (We Are The Real Deal). If women would follow this quote to what it truly means then the world would be a much better place. Women do not have to starve themselves to look great, but for now they do because it is what they think they have to do.
Women are reminded everyday of how their bodies look and most women are not satisfied with how they look. We are faced with many obstacles with our body image such as other women, men, and what we see in advertisements. Other women judge us if we do not look good, men compare us to other women, and the advertisements do not help when the women look gorgeous and have flawless bodies. Body image has become a problem in the past few years, especially with women. We are always looking to better ourselves and may not always do it in the most healthy of ways. We all should be satisfied with how we look but having so many distractions does not help us with our confidence.

my week
My week last week was not so great at the beginning of the week. I was very stressed about some exams that I had and the literature review. Wednesday night though I hung out with some of my good friends and they put me in a better mood. I also got to go home this weekend for Easter and got to see some of my friends here at home. Spending time with my mom is always very fun because she takes me shopping since I don't get to see her often. I am very excited to eat Easter dinner with my family....Happy Easter everyone!

My Week
This week has been stressful because I have had a lot of homework to do. Katie and I stayed up till 1:30 a.m. on Wednesday doing homework for Micro Economics. That class is not fun and I really wish that I did not have to take it. We also had twirling practice like three times this week and they were very hard practices. Hopefully the weekend will be fun because some of my friends from home are coming down and I hope that they have fun in the nasty nati!
Proposal
Proposal-Weight in the Media Affecting Women
Weight in the media-affecting women has been a very important subject for some time now. Women are concerned about their weight enough from boys and friends, but when the media is thrown into the picture women get even more concerned about how much their eating and exercising. Almost a century ago women with a figure to them was seen as attractive and healthy, and if you were a full sized figure it showed that you were a wealthy person, and the skinny women were just peasants. Now, in the present day women that are tiny with nothing to them is found more attractive to everyone. Much or most of this comes from the media like magazines, movies, and weight loss commercials.
Many girls and women see skinny girls on television and in magazines and this make them think that this is the way that they are supposed to look. On the cover of magazines there is always a beautiful skinny girl especially on guys magazines. Men do not want to look at a bigger unattractive girl on Sports Illustrated; they would rather see a thin woman in a bikini. This puts much pressure on women because we know that that is what men like to see. On many television shows, whether it is reality or something like a soap opera, the women are very thin and attractive. It is hard for men as well because on many magazines and television shows the men are in great shape and are very attractive as well.
This is a very important issue because it can lead to many women developing an eating disorder. One out of 10 girls will develop anorexia or bulimia. These conditions can cause life long effects and can even be deathly to women. Anorexia and Bulimia are happening to younger and younger girls every year because they feel that there is some kind of standard that they need to be meeting. Although a good portion of our society is overweight many women feel that not eating is the best solution, instead of working out. This is also a big problem because we have heard for years about models starving themselves to make the cut and even dying because of it. It is not healthy to try and be the smallest size that you possibly could be, but it is healthy to eat the right foods and work out at a respectable rate.
The media affects everyone so much everyday, but it affects women to an even higher level than it does to men. Although it is hard, women should be pretty much satisfied with how they look and try to ignore what the media says as much as possible. I would like to show people that the weight in the media affects women very much and it is becoming a big problem.

Topic Ideas
One of the main topic ideas that I like the most is how media effects society. I would like to narrow it down to how things like weight loss in media effect how people think of themselves. Weight loss in the media is everywhere and it can be very persuasive to people who want to look like these actors and models. A few of my other ideas would be illegal downloading, censorship, and can media inspire violent crimes?
